55 Power Steering Junction

There is a fluid junction for the Power Steering on my 55 Buick special located under the car around the rear side of the tranny. The plate connecting is busted and I cannot determine where the plate mounted from. Can anyone help out by letting me know where it mounts or snapping a quick pic of theirs and posting it so I have some guidance. I see a couple of spots that it could mount, but cannot determine the correct location.

Thanks,
Nuke

Re: 55 Power Steering Junction

I think what you are looking at is the trans cooler. The only steering hoses are pressure and return from pump to steering unit. The cooler is mounted atop the trans and would still be held in position by the oil lines...Bob

I agree with Bhigdog on this. The device you seem to have located on the rear of the Dynaflow is the tranmission cooler. There should be two transmission fluid lines connected to it. There should also be two pipe nipples for connecting 5/8 inch heater hoses that go to two pipe nipples on the water pump. These two heater hoses provide cooled water from the bottom tank of the radiator to cool the Dyanaflow.
Good Luck.

Great. You guys have hit the part on the head. But when you say it rests on top of the transmission held in place by the lines makes sense, since I have found a few things removed and moved around.

There looks to be a bracket coming off of the cooler, how is this positioned.

I am operating without a manual for the time being and trying to learn this as I go...

It fastens with 2 bolts to the thrust plate. A picture would be difficult to show it. Just find the two bolts above the tranny that match the hole spacing in the cooler mounting plate. .........

Re: 55 Power Steering Junction

Thanks a ton. That helps out alot. The plate is busted, so I could not tell if it was 2 hole or 3 hole and under the car where it was "moved" I could not find anything that looked like it lined up.

I will press on this evening!
