46 Model 71 style/body/trim/paint What color was this car?

    Hi all,
My car was painted silver before I got it, and I am curious to know if it was the original color. I have tried to locate a reference source for the info, but maybe the forum is the best avenue.
    Style: 46-4769
    Body: G 11930
    Trim: 92 (or maybe 9Z?)
Paint: 1 K (the K was way off in the corner of the plate)

Would love to learn any other info from the plate as well.
    Thanks for the help...Chris

    Style: 46-4769

    1946 - 4 Door Roadmaster Sedan

    Body: G 11930

Body production serial number as assigned by Fisher Body Plant in Flint "G"

    Trim: 92 (or maybe 9Z?)

Production code for the interior trim material - 92
(Mine is 52 - Gray Striped Broadcloth)

Paint: 1 K (the K was way off in the corner of the plate)

    1 - Carlsbad Black
    K - Fender Skirts

I do not know what the 92 code was, maybe some body else has that info.

Stevo - thanks for the history. Black would have looked good on this Roadmaster (on any big Buick for that matter), though I do like the metallic silver it now wears. Was silver an available color that year?

    Much appreciated, Chris

Code 08 Dusty Gray best described as medium gray

Code 09 River Mist Gray best described as dark gray almost black

Code 13 Lehigh Gray Metallic Best described as dark gray with a metallic sheen also almost black

    None are really silver.

Thanks for sharing the color options. My wife liked the color before we got the Roadmaster, and when I told her it was originally black she said she still likes silver better. I have to agree, even though it's not authentic. We'll just have to pretend. Appreciate the info, Stevo

Re: 46 Model 71 style/body/trim/paint What color was this car?

    Dear Chris:
Trim code 92 in 1946 is for "Gray Bedford Heather Cloth" per my 1928-1953 parts book, page 19A.
I'm not exactly sure what that looks like, but maybe one of the interior suppliers can help.
My 1939 Roadmaster is black with a gray Bedford Cord interior and gives a very high class appearance.
    Regards, Dave Corbin

Re: 46 Model 71 style/body/trim/paint What color was this car?

    Dear Dave,
Very helpful. The seats and door panels were done by a furniture upholsterer before I got the car, and seem quite nice. It is a gray, and while I can't say how authentic the material is, thanks to you I will at least know what the original material was. I am browsing for a more authentic carpet now. Not sure if Gray Bedford Heather Cloth was accompanied by any particular carpet colors, but that would be nice to know.
Thanks Dave, and all for the great help!
