1990 Riviera electric dash inop
Looking at cars for my nephew graduating high school. A '90 Riv caught my eye, haven't seen it yet and I'm not familiar with the dash setup. Guy wants $1,000 for it. One of those sometimes simple, sometimes complicated fixes? Would love to have his first car be a Buick, and of course I've always wanted a Riv...
Thanks!

Did you check the Riv site below? I think this is a common problem and they probably know what it will cost to fix it.

John, good to know, and good to hear from you. Discovered some other issues with the Riv, decided to take a pass. Appreciate the help.

Re: 1990 Riviera electric dash inop
The baby Rivs ['86-93] are very nice cars. The engine/tranny set up is extremely dependable and most of the electronics are not so difficult to repair.
While it is a Riv. most of the issues this vintage car may have can best be handled on the Reatta site.

Enjoying the Reatta experience!

Typically, the Reatta was a shortened Riviera platform, mechanically, but there were some Reatta-specific parts on the Reattas, too.
Enjoy!

These Rivs are nice, and maybe someday I'd consider one, but for a kid graduating high school, I'd be more inclined to look for an 89 - 90 Lesabre two door or a 92-94 2 dr Regal Gran Sport. I think you'd find parts just a tad less expensive and also less exotic, while still stylish.
ps: how's the 46? Bill ( with the 41) just sold the car this spring. Sad to see it go.

Re: 1990 Riviera electric dash inop
I just remembered something about these smaller Rivieras, which can be important AND very expensive to fix.
Seems that the inner surface of the windshield glass has a thin plastic coating on it--you'll not notice it unless you look for it, but once you see it, it's there. This is important as GM recommended PLASTIC RAZOR BLADES to remove inspection and registration stickers (which are usually placed on the inside of the windshield glass). Using normal metal razor blades would cut the plastic coating, which would require windshield replacement to fix. I don't recall if the glass vendors also had non-plastic-coated windshields, but the OEM items had the coating.
Just some recollections . . .

Do you know if the '88-'91 Reattas windshield glass had this coating?
