1955 Century Spring Spacer

I just stripped down my frame and discovered a spacer at the top of my left front spring under the pad. My guess is to compensate for the weight of the power steering unit and battery. If this car had factory A/C would it have one in the right side also? Just wondering, Mudbone

I don't think a spacer was "normally" placed under just the left spring. The facrory supplied 1/8" spacers to be placed on top of a spring in case a car set unlevel. up to 3 were allowed. My guess is either the factory or dealer added a shim to correct a slight unlevel problem............Bob

What you have pictured are the insulators that are at the top of the springs on both sides. As Bob noted there are spacers available, but these are steel. These steel shims go first in the pocket then the insulator, then the spring. Both of my factory air 55's have one each on the passengers side and were a real pain to get installed.
