1923 Chandler Shop Manuals

I am going to look at a 1923 Chandler this week for possible restoration.
Does anyone know if there are reprints of shop manuals, owners manuals, or
any other service or technical publications available?

Re: 1923 Chandler Shop Manuals

Jeff there are no shop manuals that I am aware of. Owner's maunual come up on ebal from time to time. From the factory the were parts manuals that listed all the parts for each car. These are very, very rare.
If you send me the serial numbers and or pictures I might be able to help you ID the car.

Re: 1923 Chandler Shop Manuals

That is great!! Is there any way I could get a copy of that entire brochure? I would be happy to pay you for it. Do you have any other information such as the original tire brand, paint colors, etc.? I had been looking at the tilt seats in the car and thought that was quite innovative for 1923. This car is completely original. It had been in storage along with a 1920 Paige since 1964. One interesting thing is the spare tire cover. It has a Chandler emblem about 10" wide on it compared to the plain one in the brochure photo. Do you have any idea of the value of this car completely restored? I have found one price guide giving about 22,000, but have not found any recent selling results.

Thanks,

Re: 1923 Chandler Shop Manuals

Hi Jeff,
I'll scan the whole brouchure and send it to you. Value will depend entirely upon how much someone is willing to pay. One of the great adavantages of a Chandler is the great Chandler drivetrain. It is also a great disadvatage to a prospective buyer as parts are very difficult to find as the entire drivetrain was made by Chandler for their cars only. As there are no catalouges to order parts from restoration and upkeep can be very challenging. When you go to a swapmeet and ask vendors about the avaliabilty of Chandler parts they often repond with, Chandler who? or Who made them? You are left you find parts on your own. Actually the hunt is more fun this way.

There is also club support. We have a group of about a 100 people all over the world that own or have interest in these cars. I produce a Newsletter for the club that comes out three times a year. Dues are only $15 a year to cover newsletter costs. Inside there are a few pages of classified ads for Chandler specific items. This is a great place to start your hunt. To join contact Fred Hansen at: hansen.chandler@adelphia.net

As for the $22k selling price, sounds good. You will not find any selling results as these cars (particularliy the Chummy sedan) do not come up for sale. Do you plan to keep the car or is this a restoration project to sell?
