Stumbled onto your post.
I am in need of some gaskets.
Have you had any luck?
Hi Jack
Unfortunately not.
I have no news...
I would need to rebuilt the engine, and any information would be very useful.
Do you have any info?
regards
Fred
Sorry Fred, Same story.
Mine is a 47 American LaFrance fire truck.
It blew a head gasket to the outside.
Cant find gaskets any where that I have looked on the web.
I am considering sticking in an updated power plant.
Jack
But you only need the gasket?
Mine, also came from a fire truck.
Only the head gasket failed, but I think I will need the intake, exhaust and valley cover gaskets as well.
This thing might just be to much trouble for what I use it for. Parades and such.
The old gal is quite the smoker and really needs more than a simple patching up.
Jack
I probably can get the exhaust manifold and maybe, can get someone to make the gasket.
Hmmm,
I will ponder that.
What do they charge to make a head gasket these days?
Jack
give me your email...I'll send you the picture of the engine I have for you to check if is similar than yours.

Thank You RB,
I contacted them (Olsens) and they indeed do have the gaskets. However, if I replace the needed gaskets (they are expensive) I will still have an old well worn smoking engine.
I was hoping that some one would buy this ALF from me and remove my temptations to stick this 440 that I got from a rotton low milage motor home in the truck.
If any body out there wants to make an offer I am open. If what I suspect is right in that nobody wants to pay me what I feel its worth then I will presume that it has little or no value as an original fire truck. Hence the decision will be easier to make the transplant.

I don't mean to drag an old post to the top, but I stumbled across this topic while searching for information on Auburn V-12's. I just wanted to post a note to let everyone know that the we specialize in the Lycoming-derived American LaFrance Model "F", "G" and "J" V-12 Engines. From parts requests and servicing to complete and custom engine builds, we can handle it. We also have several engines available for immediate sale at any given point in time. Even if it isn't going back into a Fire Engine, we'll still work with you! We've been selling/servicing a lot of these engines that are on a second life and being used in custom cars, hot rods, etc. These engines are my passion, so it's just a treat for me to work around them on a daily basis.
