Hello All,

I have a simple question with hopefully a simple answer;

On a 1974 Trans Am with the 290 HP 455 should the engine number stamped on the passenger side of the block match the last six digits of the cars serial. I know this is the case with Chevy's but I'm not sure about Pontiac.

The car in question has the correct Y8 suffix on the engine and X code in the VIN. However the serial numbers don't match. Owner claims to have bought the car new and also claims the motor is the original one.

Any words of wisdom are appreciated.
