1941 Pontiac in Brazil - Need Help on Data Plate

    Hello everybody!

I'm new at the forums, but I hope we can solve a question regarding another Pontiac.

Below is the photo of a friend's car data plate.

Can anyone help us to decode it?

I'm finding it rather unusual. The numbers are manually engraved on the plate... Also, the color and trim code does not match any data plate I've seen on the internet.

Please, could anyone help us? We are trying to restore it according to the plate.

By the way, this car is in Brazil, and has a 6 cyl. If needed, I can provide the engine block number, which (correct me if I'm wrong) I have read somewhere is also the serial number of the car.

Re: 1941 Pontiac in Brazil - Need Help on Data Plate

Is there another plate on the car? It may say 'GENERAL MOTORS DO BRASIL, S.A.' and then have a serial number beginning 'XE' which was the Sao Paulo plant code. It seems that Pontiacs assembled overseas were supplied from Pontiac, Michigan, either CKD or 'green' as we would now say, or SKD..Semi-knocked Down. This would explain the Pontiac-supplied blank plate which the assembly plant then stamped-up. The paint was probably a local colour, as was the trim.

From my data notes for 1941 Models:

    MODEL 30.40 H.P. DE LUXE TORPEDO SIX 119” WHEELBASE [MODEL 41-25] 6-CYLINDER 4-DOOR SEDAN SERIALS RAN: # P6JA1001 TO P6JA80460
    ENGINE SERIALS: # 6-761501 TO 6-971788

However the export plant code may be in front of the Pontiac serial number, or the serial may be XE and then their own sequential number.

Unfortunately that's the only plate of the car.

The others are missing. Including the one on the firewall.

I'll take a picture of the engine, and if possible of the car too to show it to you guys.

We are trying to find the front grille which is also missing, and all of the hood's trim (front badge, etc).

If I find any other plate I shall take a photo of it too.

    Thanks for the preliminary help!
