Now now sit down and take a deep breath. I just saw this to-day. Where has it been? You can just re and re the thread to bring it to the top of the pile you know as you have just done.
Anyways, you need a copy of 'DODGE PICKUPS History and restoration 1918-1971' Don Bunn and Tom Brunell. Chapter 11 'Wooden pickup box replacement' explains exactly what you are asking. Lots of photos and explanation on the method and materials.

That book is out of print. I happen to have a new unused copy if you'd like. It's full of info. regarding the evolution of the Dodge truck. email me direct if you are interested in the book. $55 including postage.

Hi Reg and the Boys... I just joined the club and "Man, am I ever impressed with the help you are offering" ..... I want to restore 2 old Dodges....one a 42 and the other a 39.....I was told that parts are interchangeable between 39 and 47 (for the most part) The more i read, the more i think I may be bastardizing one truck to bastardize the other the other. I may bring on an onslaught of criticism from you guys regarding this idea...but I would like to hear what you think. Unfortunately with me just having stumbled onto your website....I am overexcited and do not really know very much about my vehicles as I have been more of a collector than a knowledge seeking character....but I am on the NET everyday and can be of some service from time to time. Sincerely James40trk

I think its a good idea, you are money ahead with parts you can draw on without searching and buying. I am speaking as one who is in that position with two Plymouth '40 model pickups. I would like to add this though, pounding the internet, swap meets and craigslist has helped too and you may end up with a second vehicle all there and you can sell it to help with the finances to complete the one you keep. It does take alot of time to do this searching but you meet some nice people. I would keep the '39, it is unique and hard to find good grill and molding stuff (not to mention bumpers). In any case, I don't think you would have a hard time selling the "other" one, and someone may greatly appreciate it being available. Good luck, Richie
