There should be an ID plate on the driver's door post and another plate on the driver's side of the firewall detailing paint color, upholstery etc.

The original flathead had the engine number stamped on the block, at the front left side, just below the head between cylinder #1 and #2.

On your truck the original engine number would have been T307XXXXX.

I have a good running 52 Fargo engine if you need one.

An illustration of the ID plate:

Here is an Australian web site on Dodge trucks. As the Fargo is a Canadian Dodge, your truck will be similar.

By the way your truck should have the "Long" engine. It measures 25 1/4" long at the head.

To find more info try a Google search for "Dodge Pilot House" or "Job rated Dodge" or possibly Fargo.

Those are the names used by the factory for your year model.

To find out the diff ratio crawl under your truck, the ratio should be stamped on a flat on the front of the diff housing, its been a while so not to sure whether it is top or bottom . if your diff is original it should be 4.1.you could go to either 3.9 or 3.75 any diff head out of a early six cylinder mopar will fit, just remember you will not have the same pulling power. i did this to my 54 but i used a complete dif out of a aussie ford falcon, that is 3.25 it cruises beautifully but i have to change down more often in hilly terrain.

Some one will probably correct me on this , but the numbers that i have show that T116 engines were fitted from Sept 1940 to oct 1946 to WD20 and WD21 one ton dodge trucks.
