Hi, can anyone help me decode this vin # W5666708 also any links on a 331 spitfire V8 this is not a hemi. I seem to have difficulties with aftermarket listings showing this as a 1957 motor. Also was the 331 spitfire available as a hemi, any info can be helpful.

The 331 in 1956 was a Poly head engine on the Windsors. The New Yorkers and the 300 got the 354 CID Hemi in 1956. Prior to that in '55 the 331 was a Hemi head engine on the New Yorker and 300, and the Windsor used a 301 Spitfire engine ( Poly Head ) The Poly head engines were known as Spitfires while the Hemi Head engines were known as Firepower V-8s in the Chryslers. By 1958 the engines were bored out to 392 with Hemi heads for the New Yorker and 300, while the Windsor and Saratoga used the 354 but with Poly Heads.

Not sure why you are getting info that yours is a 57 engine unless someone has switched it out and it may be a 354 Poly. Chrysler Historical can probably decode it for you http://www.chryslerheritage.com/

Thanks from Nanaimo for your input. It seems that is why I am having problems locating info on the 331 spitfire because of its limited use.

So you are on Vancouver Island too - we have a WPC Club region here. Also there is an All- Mopar Cruise in on Sunday August 27th at Beaver Lake Park in Victoria, from 9 AM till 2 PM. We will be there.,

The range of serial numbers for the 1956 Windsor's were W56-1001 to W56-75206.
That's for the Michigan-built cars; California cars range from W56L-1001 to W56L-7091.
The 331 CID motor numbers were WE56-1001 to WE56-81623.
