timing belt on '89

Want to get the timing belt replaced on my '89 and the water pump while their there. Also flushing the brakes, radiator and tranny, packing rear bearings and new fuel filter.

Am told no Mopar parts for the lower radiator hose and timing belt. Is the timing belt the same as the '88 Daytona' and is it available? Can I get the oem somewhere or what should I use?

This is no. 231, early build of course with the triangular piece next to the oil filter. 4 cyl turbo II, automatic.

Re: timing belt on '89

Timing belt is the same, OE is fine but so is Goodyear and Pirelli isoran. Steer clear of that plain wrap blue or red box from India/China.

I pulled a Radiator /intercooler set up off of a yard 89 8V TC recently, it looked exactly like the intercooled Daytona set up. Still, I'm guessing though. Best to take the old one with you and compare.

Might as well do the motor mount while you are there, you will already have it off. Polybushings.com 'early' passenger side mount will be substantially better than a factory piece.

On an 89 common block, if the timing belt were to go while the engine is running, would the engine be damaged?

Not if you are running stock cam and pistons. The motor is non interference in it's stock form, the componants cannot touch eachother. Now if you have some hi-po parts in there... <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Part number 071 or a number ending with those 3 will be the belt for your TC.
Yes, it is similar to 88 and older 2.2L engines.
Lower hose is same as for 88 Daytona with 2.2L turbo intercooled engine.
