Exclamation Headlight help...

Hey all,
On my 89 2.2L 16v yellow TC the driver side headlight foam liner around the headlight is falling apart. What foam material can one use to replace it? What glue or bonding agent works best to bond the foam with the plastic of the headlight? Don't want to mess up the hightlights, they are like GOLD . Any help would be great on this fix.

Re: Headlight help...

You should be able to get self-adhesive closed cell foam tape from a hardware or building materials store. I think about 3/8" X 3/8" is the size you need, however don't quote me. The foam tape is available normally in white, but black is also available. The closed cell is better because it does not absorb much water. Don't worry about damaging anything because it attaches to the plastic shell of the headlight.
If you can't get the self adhesive tape you could use a good two sided tape or even a small bead of caulk. Be careful not to use contact cement because some types may eat into the shell.

Thanks My TC Toy,
That is the point I was making of not wanting to mess up the headlight housing. I will go to my HWS and see what they have.

What might someone use to clean the surface of the housing so the adhesive tape will bond very good?

I think a wipe with a good DAMP alcohol wiper then a quick wipe with a clean wiper will work fine. Don't get any on any plastic lenses. Lou

Thanks Lou.

I know what my project will be this sunny Sunday. Rain storms are coming in tomorrow and Saturday. Don't need the added humidity to cause issues with the adhesive.
