1931 Dodge Brothers DH6 clutch HELP!!!

Hey guys, I was going down the road in my '31 Dodge and as I was coming up to the stoplight, I went to put the car into neutral and it didn't want to shift out of gear. I finally got it to go into neutral and when the light went to green, I tried to put the car into first gear. It made a horrible grinding noise and wouldn't shift into any gear. I shut the car off, shifted it into second gear and started the car up again. That got me back home. Anyone out there know what the major malfunction is?? I would hate to purchase a clutch if not needed if it's just the throwout bearing. Anyone live in southern Oregon wanna come over to my place in Phoenix, Oregon to help me figure this out? Here is the car with the problem. John

Nice looking coupe. There's a mess of DBs in Oregon. Check the club roster.

My guess is that the pressure plate and or clutch let go, prob. not a throwout bearing as you prob. would have heard odd noises coming from that area before this happened. Most likely you have broken springs in pressure plate. Easy fix as I am sure you know but time consuming, Like Doug said that is a pretty car

Might even be as simple as a pilot bearing seizing up. Did you start it in second gear with the clutch out or did the clutch work when held in?

The clutch didn't work at all. I had to jam it into second gear so I could get it home. Then I had to shut it down and drift into the driveway 'cause it was stuck in gear.
I will get under my other '31 and remove the new clutch that is in there. I believe I have all new pieces...clutch, pressure plate, release bearing and pilot shaft bushing. I hate to start parting out my original '31 coupe to fix this driver, but I NEED TO TOUR!!! I can't stand to see all of my friends tour in their old cars and I am stuck riding with someone else. And I am only parting it out to myself, so....cross your fingers. Thanks for all of your advice.
