Dome lense removal on 1949 Mercury
This is probably a stupid question but I have a 1949 Mercury Coupe and in the process of trying to get the courtesy lights working I have replaced all the bulbs in the system and the fuse that were blown except the dome lense. I have tried in vane to get it to release. I would assume you just press the sides in and it should release. I can even see what appears to be the two tangs that hold it and they look free. It moves very loosely so it doesn't seem stuck but I even tried to pry it gently with a screwdriver and squeeze it but it still won't release. Am I missing something? Seems like an easy task. Thanks for your help in advance, Randy

EASY,Just pull down with your fingers from the rear of the metal bezel. Bill

Re: Dome lense removal on 1949 Mercury
I got it out. I tried pulling from the back and that didn't help. I did slide a screwdriver between the bezel and the lense at the back though and with a slight pry it popped loose. After I got it off. There is a prong on all 4 sides right in the center of each. By sliding the screwdriver staraight down the center of the back it pushes that prong in while you squeeze the sides and with 3 in it comes loose. Thanks for the help. It put me in the right direction.
I think my problem is a BAre wire right at the base of the socket touching the roof. Once I pulled the whole unit out I could see what was going on. Not to mention a corroded door jamb switch as well.
