Post Sediment bowl, 1956 Olds how full?

Seems like a simply dumb question, but how full do sediment bowls run normally? My 1956 88 runs about 1/2 full.... is there something wrong?

Thanks in advanvced

You need to drop the tank and have it cleaned and coated. A good radiator shop should be able to do it.

My 1957 Pontiac's always appears to be about half full too, with clean new fuel pump, lines and gas tank. I think that is normal.

My REO was doing the same thing, had it cleaned and coated with re-nu, and now the bowl is always clean.

The problem is the car will start to run lean and overheat. You will not expect it to be a fuel issue and start buying things like electric fans to try to keep it cool. When it was as simple as a poorly maintained fuel system.

Junk in the tank is not normal, have it cleaned and try to park the car with a full tank of fuel. This will prevent condensation from forming and rusting the tank.

I hope this helps, best of luck.

I changed out the fuel pump for a rebuilt one and NOW it runs with a full sediment bowl... I found the valves in the old pump were corroded up and not sealing.

Well, maybe I should look at my "new" fuel pump myself, thanks, Todd
