High Octane Fuel

I live in central Jersey.....anyone have any idea how I can find retailers with high octane fuel? I thought of avaition fuel (I live near Allaire Airport), but I heard that such fuel will not work well in a a 1970 455 engine.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Jack Podell Fuel Injections - 1957-1965 Corvette Specialists!

Max Lead is about the only octane boost product I've tried that works.

You can run avgas in your 1970 455, but avgas is a "drier" fuel and may need something like Marvel Mystery Oil added to it. Its RVP is a little different too so it will work at high altitudes- you don't want vapor lock at 15000 feet! Then you get into the road tax issues. A lot of flight station operators won't sell it to general public because they don't want to risk the fines for selling non-road taxed fuel.

If there's a Sunoco Fuels retailer around you, you should be able to find some high octane racing gasoline.

Re: High Octane Fuel

I use tetraethyl lead additive. Buy it by the case. Has a 2 yr. shelf life after being opened. Takes .6 oz./gal. Bought it online from Untited Lube Technologies, I believe? A link for the site is on my Saved 62 web page; listed in my forum signature (below).

Re: High Octane Fuel

when i had a 1962 grand prix that i installed a 1970 pontiac 455 and turbo400 trans, i would go out to the local airport with two five gallon gas jugs, and they would sell me the 100 octane low lead fuel that way. i would mix it 50/50 with 92 octane premium pump gas. that worked real good, that 1970 pontiac 455 was putting out 370 horses.
