6 V electrical ignition?

Sorry if this has been asked earlier, tried to search with no luck.

I'd like to install a breakerless / electrical ignition on my '49 Olds 98 303 engine. But the 6 V system probably meas that a 12 V ignition won't work - or will it? If not, then where to get a system for 6 V or how to modify a 12 V system to 6 V? I know only the basics of electrical systems, so the instructions need to be pretty specific.

Thanks,

Pertti

Re: 6 V electrical ignition?

I have a 6 v system on one of my autos. I found, but not sure where, a transformer that converted the 6 to 12 so I could operate a radio.
It worked for several years and up until it was flooded I had no problems. Possibly an auto store could help you out since it was made.
I believe I might still have it and will look and see if there is a manufacturers name on it.
