Can someone with experiance tell me how to adjust the linkage to get 3rd gear to shift at a lower rpm.

strongly recommend you get hold of a book on the so called "sprague" clutch / Jet-A-Way Hydramatic ( what your car has unless someone has done some major changes) and find out how they work. your question indicates you are not educated on how that transmission works. Too complex a subject to explain in a "thread'. good luck ! When properly set up, those Jet-A-Ways are terrific, and you will have one "HOT" reliable fun-to-drive car !

Yes, you want to make the linkage longer. Not sure about the linkage on the Olds but my 64 Bonneville has the Dual Coupling hydro like you have.

Shorter linkage adjustment the longer it stays in second and vice versa....

If you can take some photos and post them I'm sure I can help you better...

These transmissions are very sensitive to fluid level!
