46-3607 Oldsmobile

We just received a 1946 Olds 2 dr coupe that we plan on fixing up. We do not plan on putting it back to stock. We are wondering if anyone knows which car manufacturers parts are compatable with the front end, rear, etc., so that we can add a disc kit, etc.

We thought about chopping it, but it looks like this would be a huge undertaking. At this point we plan on taking off the body and sandblasting everything and doing the restoration from the ground up. We have a 396/402 that we plan on putting into the car, along with a 700R4 tranny.

Does anyone have any information or advise for us? I would appreciate any feedback that you may have.

Sincerely,
Dave

What series of car do you have?? 66-68 76-78 or 90 series.. these cars have different wheel bases and thus widths of rear ends are different etc.. I am street rodding a 42 olds 76 series 125 inche wheel base. Had to put a Delmont rear end under it for the correct width...

It is a 76-78 Series Dynamic (Deluxe). We are possibly looking at finding a source that builds fiberglass fenders for this model as well (To widen the stance of the car). Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

If you do not want to sub-frame the car, you can get a "fatman" bolt in front end..cross members etc etc.. however.. this is not cheap...but is available..just visited a friend of mine in E.Tn and he is going the fat man route on a 48 Chevy..looks good so far...Fatman is in Charlotte and makes or can make about any width cross member that you would want..

Now, Julian has done very nice work, and I trust him with the fat man fabrications and his advise. I personally have a car like yours that I have hot rodded... I have done a nice front subframe set up for it (using 79-81 olds / malibu as a donor vehicle) with pictures if you're interested.

As for fiberglass fenders... I do not know of a source for oldsmobile fiberglass fenders, but for the right price, I'm sure that I could get them made for you.

If i can be of assistance, or if you would like to see photos... drop a line at jjferrero3@yahoo.com

good luck

~Joe

Joe, I used a 72 cutlass sub-frame on my 42. So far it is working out great.. putting in a 455 with turbo 350, we cut out and put in a smooth fire wall. will look super when done...
