Do you want receiver (2' of 1-1/4") square type, or something more vintage like a flat plate style. I've seen a few on Packard always the flat plate sytle.

Re: WANTED TRAILER HITCH 1953 CLIPPER
G'day Graat,
Recently we took a tow bar off a '39 Six Sedan here in Australia. Looks like it has been made to suit the application and I'd imagine unless someone comes forward with a tow bar to suit your '53 Clipper you'll probably have to have one made up. The tow bar comprised a round tube bent into a curve to go under the fuel tank with right angled brackets at each end of the tube where it bolted to the frame. It has the tongue for the tow ball welded and braced to the centre of the tube. It also has another upright flat bar welded to the tongue nearer the tow ball to which a flat bar is bolted which also bolts to the bumper bolts to help spread the load. Attached are a couple of pic's.

Graat,
No! Not saying it will fit. But am saying it is constructed in a certain way and unless you're lucky enough for someone to offer you a used one off a 51-54 car(same basic configuration in that era) you'll probably have to have a tow bar fabricated so included the pic's for reference only.

A receiver hitch is the square one you see on truck and SUV. it modern say the last 25 years. Then pin in a square hitch with the ball

Re: WANTED TRAILER HITCH 1953 CLIPPER
I bought a 54 clipper that had a trailer hitch on it, and installes it on my 54 Patrician, it is really quit simple, there is two plates that drop down approx 2 inches that attach to the frame where the bumper attaches using the same bolts.. then a 2x2x 1/4 wall bar runs from side to side, thats the front bar, the rear attached to two of the bumper bolts, one each side, and another bar in between, thouse.. the the tow bar is attached from the front to the back, you could use a non remoavable reciever or use 2x2 id tube, with a 2x2od slide in tube so it can be removed when not in use just by removing the pin,, i have knocked my shins a few times,, i have also install a set of monroe max air , lift shocks in the back, which helps when i tow a 17 foot house trailer, and have also added an extra tranni oil cooler as well

Re: WANTED TRAILER HITCH 1953 CLIPPER
If i could get under mine i could get dimensions off of it,,, there really is not much to it thought, if you look as to where mine is mounted, using the mounting bolts for the bumper on the frame, make a couple of 1/4 plates to drop down, and a 2x2 square tube across, that will give you a rear cross bar, the front bar is connected to the two center bumper bolts the same way and drops down,, then just the reciever, or a draw bar, what ever works for you there,,
