Search for Packards in Sandy Valley, NV

Rumor had it at the local Pahrump, NV car show a few weeks ago that there were "many Packards" in Sandy Valley, NV which were now for sale.

So, I called Packard-buddy Paul in Las Vegas and sure enough he knew about these cars, but hadn't actually seen them in about 15 years.

So, local car-buddy Dean (met at the car show) and I head out to Sandy Valley. Well, Sandy Valley is about 12 miles west of NV HW 160 about 30 miles south of Pahrump towards Vegas. And it is on a very bad road! Mostly gravel, but some dirt. And we've had T-storms recently which caused all kinds of flash flooding, the remnents of which were very visible.

Long detective story short version: after about five stops, we finally find out where these Packards are stored. It turns out to be right at the entrance to Sandy Valley which, despite "eagle eyes", we did not see upon our entree to same.

Upon arriving at the location, we find that there isn't much left (hence, our inability to spot same). A very rusty Packard V-8 block and ditto straight-8 crank mark the spot. A few fenders and seats are still extant. Otherwise, all the Packards are [color:"red"] gone. [/color]

We were unable to ascertain where they went (local residents were N/A), but most likely they went to the "crusher". As that is the current "politically correct" thing to do in SV.

But as Dean pointed out, unless there was a "special" one there, it probably would not have been worth trying to buy them anyway. We'll never know.

Anyway, more Packards "bite the dust".

Another sad and sorry story that will become the norm, I fear. The days are dwindling for CLassic and Collectable cars. I hope you folk like the Toyota Prias cause that is what is the future....little plastic econo-boxes. And progress marches on! Get out and drive those beautiful cars today. Let everyone see and enjoy them for this too shall come to an end.
