Radios

Anyone have any info on a company called Soundmove in Indiana? They advertise in Hemmings that they can provide modern radio/cassette players for classic cars that will fit dashes without changing their configuration. I would be nice to have something other than an AM radio whilst cruising the highways and byways this summer.

Re: Radios

this is a good site if you dont have a 6 volt system or a positive ground system. i looked into a radio for my 52 from them a year ago "link on ebay" and while they might have one that would fit they are not 6v or positive ground. does anyone know how to find a unit that would convert 6v positive ground to 12 neg ground. i know i would have to isolate the accesory being run but i dont want to pay 60.00 for a inverter from jc whitney, i asked the guy at radio shack but he spent a good while just scratching his head "never heard of a car using 6volt electrics, who made packard" im open to ideas, my packard pics the accesory i have to run is just a small tach so current is not a big issue.

Re: Radios

The inverters for 6 volt positive ground to 12 volt negative ground don't have much capacity but will power a new system with a couple of speakers ok. It seems like they are generally rated at about 3 amps. Also you don't have to isolate the 12 volt radio from car ground when using the positive to negative inverters.

Re: Radios

Radio Shack did sell and inverter for 6V neg ground to 12 neg ground, but it can be modified to work for 6v pos gnd to 12v neg with a little work. There Catalog # is 22-1298 if you should eve see one, I managed to pick up two, as well i found 5 AM to FM converters the just plug in on the ant. lead..
