There is a small extension spring that goes from the throwout bearing to the trans case and which apparently has to be put in place after the trans is installed into the bell housing. Any idea how to install this little sucker?

The phrase "with difficulty" comes to mind. Usually done with the bellhousing bottom plate off using a pair of long nose pliers. One end of the spring clipped onto the the bearing collar then pull and twist the other end to clip the spring onto the trans snout. A few well chosen words can also help or at least release some of the emotional tension.

That's kinda what I figured. Thanks for verifying that there is no magical way to do it.
