| Re: NYS increases Historical Reg fee The increase was voted on by the NYS senate in August after they spent a month paying games. The increase is to raise money for the MTA. Only lower NYS should see this increase as it is only for the area the MTA services. All the antique car owners I have spoken to are unhappy about this and are calling or writing their state senators, to tell them to make our old cars exempt from this increase.
To go from $23 to $55 may not seem like a lot of money, but when you think about a car that does not get used much and also the fact that most of the shows we go to with our cars in NYS are run by diffrent groups usuallly raising money for some local charity. |

I wouldn't say the MTA "services" my area. I used to do contract work for the LIRR and Amtrak and they are the most inefficiently run organizations. Now I have to help support them. This is the first time that I've felt really screwed by NYS. The MTA needs an enema.

| Re: NYS increases Historical Reg fee I'm not happy about any increases in fees, but this thread is hard to follow. a look at the DMV websites FAQ's does not reflect what I'm hearing here. NYS DMV - Frequently Asked Questions
Of course, it is possible that everything being said is totally correct. But it does not appear that historical registrations will be impacted at all.

| Re: NYS increases Historical Reg fee All regular NYS registrations are for a two year period. When you first register a vehicle you pay a fee for the title ( usually a one time only expense when you purchase a car), a fee for the current plates, and a fee for the registration. Where I live we also pay a fee to the county on each year of the registration for every car you regiuster, which supposedly goes to county infastructure. This one is especially insidious but I'll reserve that for a different thread.
In NY, Historical Plates are specially notated "current" plates. If you have an antique and historical insurance, you can get a set of these plates. I believe it is a one year registration. In this circumstance you also would pay for the original Title ( if the car is post 1973), a fee for the plates, and a fee for the registration.
An option is to get Year of Manufacture plates. We can use the YOM plates as long as the number combo is not currently in use. You have to have Historical Insurance to use this type of plate. This is considered a custom plate, and is also a one year registration. Here you would pay a fee for the Title ( again, post '73 cars) , and the registration. You do not pay a fee for the plate.
The site I linked to shows that single year registrations are not facing any increase.
