This is a fiasco that has gotten way out of hand. Look at the document Charlier linked to
http://www.dot10.state.pa.us/pdotforms/inspections/enhancedstations.pdf and you'll see a handful of stations listed for Allegheny County. I live near Auto Repair Unlimited and dropped in one day when I saw they put up the new sign for the Enhanced Emissions Inspection. I talked to the nice folks there and found out some interesting things...like not all the places on that list will do the enhanced inspection. Some on the list didn't even apply to do this. They have no idea how they got on the list to begin with. Oh, how about this one...I was lead to believe this new law applied to street rods....wrong. Auto Repair Unlimited had 2 vehicles there that were considered "totalled" by the insurance company. These looked like perfectly fine cars to me. One was a newer Mustang and one was a 90's Olds Cutlass. It seems if you buy back a totalled car and rebuild it, it's not simply an R title anymore...it has to undergo the new enhanced inspection too. These 2 cars were in the shop for months (<<== plural) trying to get all the paperwork and bits and pieces approved just to drive them home. It's a real PITA to do this. So why does Auto Repair Unlimited go to the trouble? They understand how we feel about our cars. They're car people like us and felt somebody had to step up to help us get our cars back on the road again. Real good folks.
