Re: FRAUD WATCH!

Father in Law advertised motor home on E-Bay was contacted by person saying he was in Canada and was traveling through SC wanted to send large deposit. He advised he would pay in full when he picked up motor home in two weeks. Two days later (wednesday) he called back said check on way but ask that it not be deposited till the next monday. The check arrived Thursday he then called and said he had found another motor home cheaper in Canada and ask my father in law to mail him a check for the deposit keeping $1000.00 for his trouble..Father in Law no dummy and took check to bank of course it turned out to be no good.. Amt of check $25000 he would have been out $24000

Re: FRAUD WATCH!

I have heard of this or a similar scam. Sometimes the scammer will just download photos of a car from ebay or some other site (even from just a "members cars photos" from a club site) and offer the car for sale. This happened to a friend of mine. He was sitting at home one night when he got a call from another buddy of ours asking why he was selling his car. It was a very distinguishable car and my buddy said his car was NOT for sale. He chased the ad down and sure enough....there was HIS car offered for sale by someone else!! Someone had even photo-shopped a fake FOR SALE sign in the window to show that the car was "offered" locally. These jerks need to be hung up just like the horse thieves were back in the day!!

Re: FRAUD WATCH!

We have heard of and seen that scam. JUST BE SMART! Do not scan any information like a title where it could be copied. If you do, make certain that the scan cannot be used for fraud by putting a discerning mark across the front of the info such as "COPY" or "NOT ORIGINAL". Sure...with "Photoshop" or another program some scumbag could alter the title, but it would be harder to do with some sort of deterrents and cautionary measures. The info you give out is as good as a social security number sometimes. Cars HAVE been "sold" by non-owners and money has been lost by buyers. There are verification methods to use. USE THEM.

Re: FRAUD WATCH!

Yes! I have contacted the FBI, Attorney General and the Postmaster General. I have the scammers send the checks and forward them to the banks. I don’t know if it helps but as the FBI stated each time they send a check UPS or FEDEX it cost the scammer money. I have about $850,000.00 in Checks M/O and traveler checks (For sale Cheap)
