The "resto-rod" crowd can not resist missing up beautiful old cars!
What is it indeed! I'd call it an abortion!
I'd call it a mess that would present maintenance issues absolutely beyond belief if ever driven anywhere.
Having two Caddies for a number of years powered by 2X4 365 c.i. engines and over those years examined a lot of info on mid 1950's Caddies, I would seriously question the comment on that car having a 500 c.i. ambulance engine......candidly never heard of such. Cadillac held on to the 365 until they got a lot of criticism in the early 1960s from being anemic compared to engines offered by Lincoln, Chrysler, and even other GM divisions. I'm not even sure there is enough "meat" in the cylinder walls to bore one out to 500 cubes. Aside from that, that stinking engine was notorious for cracking heads. Possibly even worse than the '56 Ford 312 engines. I know we went through dozens of 365 heads to find a pair that were good when rebuilding the engine in my '57 Eldorado Seville.
Given it would take about 70K to rip all the crap out of it and put it back to original I might give them 7K for it.
