replacing fan belt

I am replacing the fan belt and I have run into a problem. The space between the stabiizer bar and the "Harmonic balancer" (I think that is what it is) does not allow the belt to slip between. Would it be safe to gently jack the engine up and not unbolt the front engine mounts? Before I screw something up, please advise- any one. Thanks. Glenn Lorei( b6vt )

Re: replacing fan belt

The stablizer bar will "bend" and you can pry it with a bar far enought to get the belt by it.

Re: replacing fan belt

Glenn I had the same thoughts when I was pulling my fan belt last weekend. But with a little twisting and pulling it comes out. As Peecher noted you can push on the stabilizer bar to gain about an inch more space. Harry
