New Heater Switch Knob for Connie?

I am putting a new knob on my heater switch. The old knob was broken beyond repair, so I got a new knob. Got the old knob off the sleeve ok, but the sleeve doesn't fit into the new knob very well. Is this an extremely tight force fit, ie, bend the sleeve by hitting it repeatedly, or something else?

Thanks, in advance.

Try putting the sleeve in the freezer for a while. That may shrink the metal enough to slip into the new knob. You could put the knob in a heated place to expand it at the same time....of course...not too hot. Maybe the difference in shrinkage/expansion will help. It's either that or possibly filing out the hole of the knob very carefully and then epoxy it onto the sleeve.

The inside of the knob measures 0.504". The sleeve is hexogonal and measures 0.540" across the hex. I think filing the hex down may in order, and epoxy?

Just be certain that you align the red mark on the knob with the correct spot on the sleeve before using epoxy.

Yeah, I marked the original before taking apart. Should be ok, but I'll check again before permanent connection.

Don't know if this helps, the O.D on the brass insert is .5 ", so the drill hole should be the same.
