    '41 Lincoln Door Adjustment Problems.

Hello - We are new to the forum and I hope someone can help us out here. We are restoring a '41 Lincoln Convertible and I would say its about 98% finished. We just got the rest of the interior installed, the top is on and theres just minor details to place on the car. We knew the doors were gonna need a little work to get them aligned but we're running out of ideas and everything we try is ending up in more work for us. Please Let me know if anyone has had this same problem and if they have any suggestions as how to solve it. Thanks alot.

Diz is absolutely right, the problem could be as simple as worn hinge pins, or as complex as what I had happen last year when I was looking at a '41 Continental coupe, the owner opened the drivers door for me to view the dash and upholstery, and lo and behold, the door literally fell off in to the dirt, the hinges had rusted totally off, needless to say, we failed to make a deal

Hey - Thanks for quick reply. Okay well the pins are good, hinges are good, the problem is at the top of the door and the door jam. Their rubbing together. Latch is also in great shape. The door closes near perfect just its way too close at the top rear of the door.

I have seen alot of GOOD things done with a 2x4 wrapped in a towel and a heavy hammer but that was ALWAYS before it was painted.diz

The doors are adjustable for and aft and unless the body opening has become warped you should be able to align the doors to the opening. The hinges are adjusted on the doors so the door panels will have to be removed in order to get at them. The lower hinge has fasteners accessable from under the front edge of the door and these fasteners can sometimes be a real problem.
