1930 studebaker five window coupe help and parts needed
I am new to the forum and hope to meet some great car people. I have a small good collection of rare cars and just added the 1930 studebaker model 53 rumble seat coupe. It's just the body and am in a bit of a dilemma as to if it's an erskine or not. I was told by the erskine registry from looking at pictures that it's believed to be a erskine sport cabriolet royal like the mustard colored one on the site. The tag on firewall is 53 Q-1 683 this is the only identifying info of what's left of the car it has no frame or engine. The body is in pretty fair condition considering its age. It has the rumble seat, spare tire mount on drivers side of cowl, studebaker emblem on dash, and very faint pinstripes by the body lines. I will try to post some images as soon as I can figure out how too. I am looking for some parts for it such as a grille shell, cowl trim, door latches and handles, door striker latch also. Most important is a grille shell and cowl trim. Can anyone help identify this old stude and know of any parts for it so I can bring it back to life? Thanx so much for any info and look forward to chatting with new car friends!

Re: 1930 studebaker five window coupe help and parts needed
The Erskine model 53 was identical to the Studebaker Six (also a model 53) except for the hub caps and radiator badge. They simply changed the name midway through the model run. All of the details on this is documented in a feature article I did for the ASC Review some years ago.

I will see if I can find your review on that one. 1930 sure did cause a bit of controversy for us new stude owners. I sure can't seem to find much at all about my particular stude even pictures. Sounds like an erskine grille shell isn't so important seems I seen two different ones used for this particular car other than the commanders and presidents which are different yet.

That would be the July/August 2001 issue. I have lots of original factory photos of the model 53s.
