What exactly is a Classic Car?

"What exactly is a Classic Car?"

The Club defines CCCA Classics or Full Classic™ Cars as:

"...fine or unusual motor cars which were built between and including the years 1925 to 1948. (Some cars built prior to 1925 that are virtually identical to a 1925 model that is recognized by the Club are currently being accepted on a "Please Apply" basis). All of these are very special cars which are distinguished by their respective fine design, high engineering standards and superior workmanship."

They were usually quite expensive when new with relatively low production figures. You won't find your Mom's '72 Plymouth Duster or your Grandfather's Model A Ford in the ranks of CCCA. We applaud other clubs who do recognize these cars and recognize that owning one can be a lot of fun, but they are not what CCCA is all about.

Re: What exactly is a Classic Car?

I have the book about Classic cars written by Beverely Rae Kimes; the one with the black and white photography. Thought I would compare the list in it with the current list but Explorer informs me that the link is broken.

Except for minor additions to the list since Beverly published that book I think you will find an exact match. Her book "The Classic Era" is great also.

Re: What exactly is a Classic Car?

isn't it time we stopped beating this issue ? The word "classic" is a "nice" word. People LIKE the word. I stayed at a hotel where they had CLASSIC BUS SERVICE. We have CLASSIC CHICKEN. We have books about CLASSIC farm tractors & CLASSIC hot rods and pick up trucks. There is a business named CLASSIC PLUMBING. The list goes ON...and ON...and ON.... Enough already ! Can't we leave this issue ALONE ?

What benefit can there to worrying about this ? If you LIKE the word "CLASSIC" why not use it ? LOOK in the magazine section of your local major book store. It is getting harder and harder to find ANY service or goods that is not called "CLASSIC".

We are (still) a free country folks. Let's enjoy life and not worry about what other people want to call their "whatever".

Sorry Pete, but I disagree. A classic is not a classic. Classic Bras

Re: What exactly is a Classic Car?

Seems an over 1 year old thread was revived...does this make it a "Classic"

Just a tongue in cheek reference...I agree with Trunk Rack, It is what it is.

Perspective is everything and anything.

Re: What exactly is a Classic Car?

at the risk of beating this even further into the ground........the current issue of OLD CARS WEEKLY (see pp. 19) has the most recent definition of a "classic-antique". Yup - it has come to this...ANY car...yes...ANY car...that you like, and is not used as a daily driver.

All the more reason I dont want people to refer to my '38 V-12 Packard Formal Sedan as a "classic-antique" (cause I drive it practially every day, and I don't want it confused with a used pick-up truck...... ! )
