Voltage Regulator

Anybody know where I can get a voltage regulator
for a 1936 Plymouth P2? (This is a 3-in-1 unit.)

Re: Voltage Regulator

My 1949 issue Autolite catalog shows this being a 2 stage
regulator OE. What is the ID number of the one you have if its
original Autolite?

Cheers,

Re: Voltage Regulator

The number you have is correct. If you take the cover off you
will see only sets of points, hence 2 stage.

I have one NOS thats been out of its box forever and a couple
of good used ones. If you are interested I will make sure they are
all in excellent working condition with my handy dandy Crumbliss
regulator test bench which can be seen at http://acewichita.com/06_vintage.htm
If you are interested in either let me know which and I will give
you a price?

Cheers,

Glenn

Re: Voltage Regulator

That's great, Glenn! Glad you're out there!

Will pull my generator with the regulator on Monday for bench testing.
When I find out what's going on, I can make a move: adjust, rebuild,
replace, or install a 6 volt alternator.

Re: Voltage Regulator

Here is a pic of one that was sent to Oslo Norway. Just got an email
it finally got warm enough for him to enjoy his car a 52 Plymouth.
The shiny bits are either new or have been replated. I use no silver/aluminum paint on my rebuilt generators or starters.

Re: Voltage Regulator

Well, I took the '36 Plymouth P2's generator & regulator to
a trusted rebuilder for bench testing. The repairs needed
were estimated in excess of $100.

So, I bought a tested, rebuilt, 6 volt, positive ground,
one wire alternator for $60. A lot of these units are sold
around here (Wisconsin) and are popular at the Iola Old Car
Show . They crank out about 7.5 volts and 32-35 amps. And,
the price is right! Will keep the stock generator, regulator,
& bracket.

Thanks for replying to my need! Your replies are in my tech
file for future reference & to pass on to others.
