Hi! I have a 1979 Ford LTD Landau with carburettor model Windsor 351. Body including tank is original parts.
I need to remove the fuel tank. I have the straps that go underneath undone and removed, and fuel sender and fuel pipe [to engine] connections removed. I have the hinged filler access door removed [4 small self-tap screws.] I have removed another 4 small self-tap screws from a flange around the filler neck. I am thinking that the top part of the filler pipe [the part which carries the lockable cap] needs to be removed before the tank can drop down. The non-filler end has already dropped down a bit - it is supported on a jack. the filler end can't drop much because of the filler pipe which includes the flange which cant [I think] be pulled downwards.
So what is the secret? How can I get the top of the pipe to release and come off? Perhaps the flange is glued with some sealer, but I have prised it as hard as I can without doing damage. Am I missing something? Do I need to undo something else? Help please!

on my 1967 Galaxie as well as my 65 Galaxie, it is nothing more than a metal pipe run through a rubber flange that seals it, i hade removed those tanks twice, i have had it go both ways, come right out easy and i have played hell getting it out, your LTD may be the same

Thanks Granada79, but it sounds like your Galaxies use a different arrangement. My pipe includes metal flanges - as mentioned I've already removed the four small self-tap screws. So I'm hoping to find a reader who knows the setup I've got. Cheers.
