Chrysler flathead 8 engine vibration... fluid coupling???

I'm still trying to chase down that engine vibration at about 1200 rpm on my '48 Chrysler 8 .

It was suggested to me that a vane in the fluid coupling may have gone bad and might be causing an imbalance vibration. Has anyone ever experienced this? If so, what was the remedy?

Will I cause any harm if I run the engine with the fluid coupling drained of fluid for diagnostic purposes...just idling in neutral, rpm about 1200 or so?

Thanks
David

Re: Chrysler flathead 8 engine vibration... fluid coupling???

Don't run the Fluid Coupling dry !

If there's a balance issue with the Fluid Coupling, presence of fluid will not alter that.

Get a copy of the factory shop manual and read the info about checking run-out on the FC.

Copies are available from Roberts MOtor PARts, among other vendors.

Check the motor-mounts, plugs, wires, etc . before you start monkeying around with the Fluid Coupling, aside from possible fluid leakage, they rarely have issues.
