WTB light and throttle levers

I need the light and throttle levers for my 29 DB pick up. Mine are just stubs where they were broken off. I saw steel ones on a DB car this weekend but mine were wooden. They are around the horn ring on the steering wheel. One controls the lights and the other is the hand throttle.

Re: WTB light and throttle levers

I never had a Dodge truck, but I can't imagine the levers were wood. All of the many early Mopars I had were potmetal and most were broken off in this climate.

Re: WTB light and throttle levers

I haven't looked at them that close but they feel like wood. That and I guess I just thought wood from the place they were broken and the wood steering wheel. If I can figure out how to get them off I may have to cast them in resin. The nubs are still on them and I can turn them it will just look better when they are correct. I'll have to scrape them today and see if they are pot metal. Thanks for the heads up on that.

I doubt that they are wood. The company would never have used wood for something that delicate. Sometimes pot metal will separate and look like woodgrain.

Re: WTB light and throttle levers

It didn't seem logical to me to use wood but I just didn't look close enough not to ask foolish questions. Now when I go home for lunch I'll have to look and see what they are.

Re: WTB light and throttle levers

Well, after scraping the nubs with a knife I can see the levers are some kind of metal, almost looks like steel, probably cast iron. Does anyone have instructions for removing them for replacement? I'm guessing the plate over them has to come off but I don't want to force it until I've heard from someone who has removed these before. I'll ask over on the technical forum also.

Re: WTB light and throttle levers

It's been too long since I had those here. I almost recall that the exposed knob was actually cast as one part of larger part that went under the center horn button assembly?

Some that I have seen on other makes are a sheet metal (steel) base under the horn thing, but then a removable potmetal knob held on with a screw.

I still think yours are potmetal, only because all of my old Mopars were. Put a magnet on it? to tell?

Re: WTB light and throttle levers

F&J is correct. If your truck has a light switch at the base of the steering column (engine compartment area), you will probably have to take the switch off with the removal of the nut on the switch. After that, EASE the whole horn button and switch lever (at the upper end) out of the center of the tube. Be careful to NOT damage the horn wire in the center. There should be screws beneath the horn button collar. If yours is anything like mine, that is my procedure. John

I'll take mine apart tomorrow and send some pictures.
