Re: Scam Watch - PLEASE READ!

There are many scam stories.
Common sense applies.
[*]"TALK" with the potential buyer or seller[*]Inspect the vehicle before money changes hands (yourself or a trusted 3rd party)[*]If the buyer/seller doesnt honestly discuss the the car (condition, history, etc.) - its a scam.[*]Insist the buy/seller calls you from a line not blocked. If they refuse it's a scam.[*]If he provides a number but its a fax machine or the buyer never answers it's a scam.[*]If the seller wants you to pay for anything BEFORE funds are secured - its a scam. (shipping charges, etc.)[*]If payment issues are more complicated than a check, money order, certified check, wire transfer or cash - it's a scam[*]ALWAYS wait for funds to be confirmed as valid by the bank (not just a deposit slip) before allowing the car or title to leave your possession - NEVER assume the funds good - even a money order or certified check.[*]DON'T engage with an obvious scammer - simply delete the emails.[*]Law enforcement cant do anything until a crime has been committed - dont let it get to that point.[/list]And finally - if it seems to good to be true, it is.

Re: Buyers and Sellers - PLEASE READ!

I got a call ('name unknown, number unknown') last Sunday night at 10pm from a canned voice.
Now, just by the info up to now, I KNOW it's a scam...
The message said, "If you are solvent for $20,000, or will be shortly, and you would like to earn interest over 10%, ...
At this point I hung up. Peter is right, "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is."

Re: Buyers and Sellers - PLEASE READ!

When I posted my FS post, I didn't leave any contact information. Should I check my post regularly for replies? Or will replies go to my email?

Re: Buyers and Sellers - PLEASE READ!

Hello,
I am a new member and I "thought" I posted an ad for sale of a 1955 Buick Special 2Dr.Ht. Red/White Ext. & Red/Gray Int. with a link to my ad on oldride.com with all the pictures & discription, where it is etc. but I find no listing here. Was it deleted? If so please email me and let me know what I did wrong.

Thank you
