Scan codes on 95 Park Ave

Does anybody know if it is possible to read the scan codes out of the DLC (data link connector) on a 95 Park ave without the special Tech 1 tool the manual says to use?<P>Is a scan tool neccessary to read the codes or does the car have a blinking light setup (you know, some cars you can short 2 pins together and the dash lights flash the pattern)?<P>And if a scan tool is needed, anybody know of an inexpensive tool and where to get it?

you can probably buy a cheapie scan tool for gm's at an autoparts store for about 50-100 bucks I think?
