how to tell difference between 322,364 ect ??

is there a easy way to tell which nailhead you have ? i have been buying gaskets for my 56' 322 ? and it looks the same as in the chassis manual i have.a guy at a show swears it is not a 322 because it has no spark plug covers or bolts for them..i did find out that<BR>the distributer is the later version,do they fit the 56' 322's ? thanks for any help..steve

Measure across the intake bolts from one head to the other. If it is 8 & 1/4" center to center. The 364 is 8 & 3/4". All nailhead distributors interchange, so you could have a later one on your 322. <P>You could also have late heads would explain the lack of mounts for spark plug covers. If this is the case, you have VERY low compression as the combustion chamber is too large.

That is good to know! Even the little (tack head) motors' distributers will work on the 401-425? Why can't everything be built that way [img]images/icons/smile.gif" border="0[/img]
