Gas tank lines - '72 Skylark Convertible... HELP!

Hello, new member and rookie mechanic here.

Dropped the gas tank out of my 72 Skylark convertible a few weeks ago, and am now reinstalling. Only problem is that I can't remember with certainty how all the lines from the tank go.

Any chance someone could explain, or diagram, or even shoot/post or e-mail a digital pic of the underside of such a car, directly in front of the tank, showing the lines.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Gas tank lines - '72 Skylark Convertible... HELP!

Typically, the sizing of the particular lines is specific to their function. The "feed" line from the tank will be the larger size and the "return" line (if equipped) will be the smaller size of the two. If you're using the OEM production lines, I think that they should pretty much "fall into place" as they are bent and configured to go "one way" in how they attach to the tank's sending unit and also fit to the frame rails under the vehicle.

There might also be another line, in addition to the feed and possible return line. It will go to an evaporative emissions collection canister in the engine compartment. It will be how the tank is vented. Otherwise, the "vent" line will just go up under the bottom of the body shell and have a cap or loop in it, after it comes out of the sending unit attachment point.

    Hope this might help,
