455 Buick performance ??? vs Olds

Long story short:
I have a 69' Olds with 350 cid Rocket and 2 speed powerslide.(powerglide)
I also have a complete 71' 455/T400 Buick power train. I believe I can handle the swap, but is Buick any better/worse than Olds? (ie. PERFORMANCE, parts availability, cost) You may be biased, but any input is welcome, as I am Buick iliterate.

The buick 455 is a lot slower than that 350 olds you got. Just send it to me, I'll get rid of it for ya.

Buick and Olds performance parts are about the same price ,but Buick parts are more readily available. The 455 in place of the 350 will probably scare you the first time you jump on it ,but you will LOVE IT

The Buick 455 has more available speed parts. But first, I think you better check where the starter is on the Olds. If memory is serving me, it's on the drivers side. Buick starter is on the passenger side. Whoops, wiring problem.
------------------
George C. Thomas
70 GS 455 12.teens
86 GN Low 13's/ high 12's

Running a longer thick gauge cable and a longer trigger for the solinoid doesn't seem like that big a problem to me.

Re: 455 Buick performance ??? vs Olds

The Buicks are the lightest of the GM Big Blocks and it can be argued that they are the fastest, especially in stock or mild performace applications. I personally have seen more parts available for oldsmobiles than buicks in catalogs like Jegs and Summit. For instance Edelbrock makes Oldsmobile heads and none for Buick. But TA performance, a buick specialist, makes buick heads.
Another thing you could do is find an olds 350 diesel block and with the right parts make a 440 ci small block.
Tomsriv

the buick engines are good (caddy big blocks are the lightest, though), but i think it is kind of nice to keep it olds motor since olds made a 455.
see if you can sell the buick motor and pickup an olds 455, in the long run the swap will be easier, and the car will have more resale value, as well as being more friendly to car-show visitors.
allan
------------------
allan
--------------
50 special, 455/th400
64 stude gt hawk, 289/auto
76 poncho GP, 400/th400

Thanks for the knowledgeable input. I think having an Olds 455 in an Olds only makes sense.

69 Olds I hope you come back to read this. If you have'nt already found it.Try typing 442.com and see what you come up with. There is a wealth of information there. Huge parts for sale as well as cars, mainly Cutlass,442.A virtual car show. You name it.You could probably make that 350 into a nice roadable engine and you won't need to stop at every third gas station.
