Windshield post or pillar interior trim question

The clip/s that hold my passenger side interior windshield/pillar vinyl covered trim section are broken. They are a form of a slide on clip to the trim section, and then the section is poped on to the body pillar....any advice on where these clips may be obtained?

Thanks,
Nic

Re: Windshield post or pillar interior trim question

Nick,
Those are a "One Time" clip, once installed you either break the slot parts off the back of the A Piller moulding or the clip itself.
A GM Parts person, a patient one can look it up in the schematics/ sketches on the Parts System.
I have a few at home still in wrappers if you don't have any success getting the PN. I'll be back at the ranch tmorrow night.
Or you can resort to Velcro

Re: Windshield post or pillar interior trim question

Hi Nic;

I got mine from a local auto body shop.

Got the smallest that they had but they were still too large so I took the dermal and cut about 1/3 of the shaft diameter away and they worked perfectly. They were about the right length to start with they were just too thick and hard to push into the holes.

Re: Windshield post or pillar interior trim question

For the search function....I phoned the local Buick body shop (had already phoned the parts dept...no one in area had any stock and they aren't very cooperate) and a Chevy body shop...no luck. Called a Olds dealer that I used to do business with and they found a workable number and are attempting to order....$4.75 each.

Thanks again,

Nic

Re: Windshield post or pillar interior trim question

I have had two windshields put in and they used adhesive calk to refit the pillars. They fell out and I bought new clips but they were such a pain to install that I brought the car back to the glass place and they used a different adhesive and it has been five years and they are still holding!

I used velcro a few months back, and it's still firmly in place.

Re: Windshield post or pillar interior trim question

In regard to the A-Pillar trim pieces attaching clips: The suggestion about pushing the trim piece down toward the dash, to disengage the flat disk end of the two, ribbed push pins makes sense. The disks slide into slots formed in stand off mounts moulded to the trim cover. These disks are about 3/4 of an inch around. I was not a forum member when I removed mine to replace the headliner, and the moulded brackets mentioned above broke out and would no longer capitvate the trim push pins that press into the A-Piller holes.
I tried every type of velcro and could not get the covers to locate tightly to the piller. I finally tossed the velcro and applied a bead of clear silicone sealant to the trailing edge of the A-Pillar welded seam. With the window down, I used a soft jawed wood working clamp to hold the piece in place, removed any squeezed out excess sealant, and let it cure for about four hours. The covers are nice and tight and if ever they need to be removed, a razor knife will cut the sealant bead.
