| Re: Wildcat: Birth of the Reatta? Wow,
That Questor was a sharp looking car (despite it being nothing but curves). I think I may have seen an exterior pic of that some time ago, but this is the first time I've seen the interior. A closer glance, you can see 88 Reatta style window switches (center console) and mirror control (driver's door panel). Strange placement of the cassette deck, and the center of the steering wheel looks like a console from Star Trek TNG.
My eyes may deceive me, but the lower CRT display almost looks like the 86 Rivi touchscreen (with out the border "hard" buttons). Wish there was a pic of the HUD in operation. If it was actually functional in this prototype, I bet it was something to see. Perhaps even better than the 90-91 Reatta cluster, which I think is amongst the very best digital IPC's ever developed for appearance.
Actually, with some custom body work and a repaint, a Reatta could almost be made a replica of the Questor. You wouldn't have the glass canopy, but the roof and rear pillars could be painted black down to the body crease to emulate this look.
The interior would be a bit harder to duplicate, especially that looong steering column (rather strange looking IMO). Would also love to know how the nav system was supposed to work. With no access to GPS at that point in time (would've been military use only if it was available at all) it would've been difficult to pull of real-time navigation with any accuracy. The lack of digital map databases (now ubiquitous) would have made it very difficult to deploy as well. I know it was just a concept, but this particular feature strikes me as completely unrealistic given the technology of 1983.
