I was beginning to check around for a new radar detector, came across a test between a Valentine and a Bel stI. The test indicated that the Bel was the better model in head to head testing, but both still did extremely well. At least until...
Later in the article the guy doing the testing did a heat test to see how well the units would hold up on a hot day since electronics are affected by heat. The units were left in the sun and allowed to get hot while plugged in. The Bel units shut themselves down when the case temp reached about 160 degrees or so, but the Valentines did not. After the heat test he allowed the units to cool, then did another test and found that the Bels were still working, but the Valentines were no longer picking up radar guns. So, if you have a Valentine and ever left it on in the heat, it may not be picking up all bands anymore, and may not be picking up any bands.
So, if you have a detector that suddenly goes quiet, like no longer goes off where it should (and it doesn't have to be a Valentine unit even) after a day when it gets hot inside the cabin then there's a chance that it's become heat damaged.
For the Thought Police - This thread is pertinent to Reattas because some Reatta owners may use Valentine One detectors. As this piece of equipment may be installed in a Reatta, it is Reatta-appropriate.
