Re: tires

I just put on 225-60-15, marginally wider. Looks I suppose are about the only difference. Unless you change the wheels also, this is about the only size over stock 215-65-15 that will work best. The quality of tire is probably most important factor.

Thank you. I'd like to change the wheels as well but can't make myself do that as the entire value of the car will then be wrapped up in wheels and tires. I am, however, pressing my luck by driving on the current set much further. Thanks again.

tsioux, I just changed stock wheels and tires to 225x60x16 Michelin x-ones on my 90 vert and the difference in ride and handling is unbelievable. I used Robert's recommendation for tires at tirerack and got the wheels on ebay. Go to ebay motors, parts car&truck, wheels and tires. Do search for 16 x 7 You're looking for GM 5 lug 115mm bolt pattern. If you have questions about the offset, do search for offset here; plenty of posts.
good luck whichever way you decide

Re: tires

Well, I've switched to the 225/60/15's also, and, as some here already know, am somewhat stuck on Dunlop for their all-weather, year-round, flexibility and durability. I went with the Sport A-2's this time and am pleased.

One noticeable difference with wider tires is that in standing water, you will notice that they tend to float more, i.e. hydroplaning. Even though the Dunlops have proven their worth through snow, rain, ice, slush and mud, even they hydroplane somewhat in standing water. Good or bad, there's really no way around it. Wider is better but means you'll hydroplane a bit more than if you went with thinner. But hey, that's why you have four of them, two on each side!

Re: tires

Is part of reason I went to 225x60x16 Michelin X-Ones. Superb in the wet (which we get a lot of). Also same size as our Bonneville.
