    Sunroof drain

Having received the replacement cable assemby, I am now into the process and have a question: The front drains seem to be routed in such a way that the first part of the hose goes uphill (see att). This means that until the water evaporates there will always be some at the end of the drain which is liable to cause the end of the drain to rust out. The kink in the hose also cannot be good.

Is there another way to route the hose ? The manual is not a lot of help. Since there is a replacement hose clamp, apparently someone has been in here before.

    Re: Sunroof drain

I had a 91 w/ factory sunroof, drains stopped up because of pine needles, etc. I do not remember any drain actually going uphill! All drained completely when unstopped, as I remember.
Maybe someone will take a look, convey factory routing, no hoseclamp?
Reatta Brakes, Teves, except 1991, are excellent but somewhat complicated.

As I recall the gear hose clamp will be an aftemarket addition, not stock. Glad the dogsled finally got them there. Robert

    Re: Sunroof drain

I don't know a simple way to check the hose without removing the headliner.

I recently saw a sunroof car in a wrecking yard and the passanger side rear was
restricted at the factory by being wedged between the sheet metal and the plastic "C" pillar cover, so these things happen.

You might try running a flexable "Snake" down the tube to see if that helps.

    Re: Sunroof drain

Know the hose is clear, just need to know the proper routing, doubt that it is supposed to be pulled hard over a sharp edge. Then again this may be the way they did the first 88s, I understand they were only available later in the year. Will probably have at it a bit with a die grinder to remove the ledge and relieve the kink.

Can now confirm that the RX-7 cable assembly is identical to the Reatta, the set fits just the same and even the end cap holes are in the right place. Was a bit tricky R&Ring the cable end, the track needed to be loosened from the "sunroof module" and raised slighty to get the entire foot out.

Have to be carefull after pulling the slider back far enough to remove the cable as the end may pop over the spring loaded swivel and then it will not push in.

Book also does not say to remove the four "adjustement" C-clips and washers before dropping the module. Do not unscrew and the sunroof will stay adjusted.
