Steering Wheel?

I konw this is crazy, but I just can not cover my worn out steering wheel with those tacky leather wraps form WalMart. Anyone know how I can secure a 1989 tan leather wrapped steering wheel? I have tried several web postings and part stores. The factory says there are none to be had as well. HELP! erabbit69@aol.com

Try going to a GOOD interior upholstery shop. I've been told that they can cut the stitching on the original wheel, and replace it with new leather & restitch the new material right on the wheel. I have the same problem with my 1990 grey steering wheel, but have not had time yet to get to a shop to verify that they could indeed do that. I'll keep you posted if I can get an answer from my shop!
Mike Book BCA # 9202
Reatta Club # 407
BDE # 109

Try Speedway Auto Parts in Phoenix at www.reattaparts.com. They have almost 100 Reattas and probably have nice used ones

    Re: Steering Wheel?

A while ago I stumbled over a place that specialized in replacing worn leather covers on steering wheels. They could even do it in the car but since I think they were located in Texas, that "in car work" wouldn't be an option for most people. Locally, a vinyl repair service claims they can do it also, but I haven't seen their work in this area. You might check around with the best dealerships or trim shops in your area. There are mobile specialists sprouting up around the country that can do amazing repair jobs on problems that used to be impossible. I found a local guy that can do paintless dent repair that is absolutely impossible to detect when he's done. Another guy does minor paint repair work and a vinyl repair specialist that also works with leather. I'm very happy to have found these guys. But you have to check around. These repairs require real skill and experience and not all these guys are equally skilled.

I had my steering wheel recovered by a place in texas. Had the wheel removed and sent it to them, they returned it in two days. Did a great job. The company is american stitches. http://www.american-stitches.com/
[This message has been edited by Swimmingbear_99 (edited 02-19-2001).]

I just had http://www.american-stitches.com/ do the work on my 90 Reatta and they are great. I recomend them to anyone. I was lucky since I live in Dallas so I didn't have to remove the wheel. Their website is wonderful and they will work with you.
Bruce Guthrie

My 88 wheel is being recovered by Alan Gun Leather in Plantation Florida. 1-800-780-4500. They say that they do OEM quality work. They sent leather samples to choose from. Cost is about $180.00
They have had extreme difficulity and took a long time to complete it (about 6 weeks). It should have shipped yesterday. They said that mine was the first Reatta wheel that they have done. After this the price may change.

Dalton, Has the treatment from Leather Majic held up? It sounds like just what I was looking for for the cracks in My seats. Thanks

http://www.american-stitches.com/ is the place to check out. The only problem I would have is removing the wheel. The airbag makes me wonder. The web-site has instructions. I felt lucky they were in town and I just paid the extra. These are hand finished and I did see them doing the work. As I stated before...my turned out GREAT.
Bruce
