    Rear Brake Calipers

Just got a low brake fluid warning. I checked under my car and noticed some leakage. Decided to take into the shop. Upon completion of inspection, technician said that GM no longer makes the original brake caliper and that there is an alternate caliper. Is this true or is this guy blowing hot air?

    Thanks, Noe

Just tell the guy you want Riviera calipers. Same thing.

Or contact jfinn@cpinternet.com for original Reatta parts. He's got parts cars. He's dropping
off a rear caliper for me at work tomorrow.

I tell ya, it's handy knowing a guy with 10 parts Reattas that lives half an hour away. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/image...lins/grin.gif" alt="" />

NAPA sells remanufacturer calipers. I bought the loaded ones( because of the hardware) and replaced the pads with Durastop AR 17354M.

These brakes are pretty tricky. So get mechnic that knows what he is doing.

The rear brakes were shot when I bought mine this last week, my mechanic used to work for Buick though which was a nice happenstance. Anyway, he didn't mention anything about it being difficult to obtain the parts, in fact he had them installed and complete next day, though invoiced the price for calipers/rotors to the tune of $400. Should I be concerned about what he used, or is aftermarket readily available?

    Re: Rear Brake Calipers

No reason for major concern, but the rear brakes have a tendancy to rattle due to aftermarket pads not exactly matching the dimensions of the OEM pads. While this isn't necessairily a safety issue it is annoying.

    Re: Rear Brake Calipers

After checking with the local Buick dealer, I verified that they indeed did sell aftermarket calipers (Durastop) at $172.00 for a loaded unit. The vendor in question had charged me close to $300.00 for another brand each. I had agreed to the price because he had informed me that GM no longer made the calipers and that he could not get them except for the Brombi calipers. Needless to say, I was a bit peeved. I went back the next day and explained to the manager that the local Buick dealer had the parts and requested a refund for the difference.

Excellent Customer Service, I'm getting almost 250 back. I am so impressed with the manager that I will write his corporate office to thank them for having good people on board.

Thanks again for all your information.

I have to also advise that I will be parting with my 89 Reatta since I have been assigned overseas (Moscow, Russia). I passed along to my brother who manages a car restoration shop. It's going to a good owner.....216,571 miles and still going strong.....and now it even stops...:-)

    cheers friends...Noe
