Plug Wires

My 91 with 53K miles has started to misfire under load. When in Netrual and accelerating the mis is not noticeable, but in drive holding the brake and accelerating it,s misses like crazy. This started as an occasional misfire during acceleration and has gotten progresively worse over 1500 miles or so. I intend to start by replaceing the plugs , fuel filter and then plug wires, in that order. If I replace the plug wires, I would like a replacement set just like the originals, same boots, insulators, color lenght etc. Does anyone know were they can be purchased?

Re: Plug Wires

Should be able to get plug wires anywhere, since it's the same 3.8L used in millions of other cars. One other thing to consider will be the coil, they can degrade over time.

Re: Plug Wires

I agree with telco, look at your coil module first. And a much easier fix, tape and number your wires so you don't mix them up. Do a search within the forum I see a lot of past good stuff on them. Padgett has even found an upgraded alternative. My Riviera was hesitating and sputtering and this was the problem, also search Sea Foam, a sitting car is prone to gum up.

All that info is on Ronnie's site, it is all Reatta all the time, and he is the moderator there as well. [lol]

Re: Plug Wires

In prior posts I mentioned what really bugged me about the Reatta was how the start up
and getting going was always cranky in one form or another. I just upgraded to 8.2mm Taylor plug wires and they worked wonders- starts right up and takes off - and the car runs very "smooth" at speed.

Re: Plug Wires

He has a 91, it already has the Delco ignition. That said it may still be a failing coil, can change them individualy. Bad one usually shows up on a DVM, values are in the FSM, I just do not recall offhand.
